MEMORANDUM FOR: UNIT PERSONNEL & ENLISTMENT APPLICANTS
SUBJECT: Enlistment Policy Change, Military Service & Age Requirements
1. Purpose: To define and establish the below stated changes to the 3rd Marine Division's Enlistment Requirements & Policy.
2. Applicability: This policy applies to all individuals applying for enlistment and entering enlistment processing with the 3rd Marine Division after an effective date of 01 November, 2009.
3. The minimum age for enlistment is hereby changed from 15 years of age, to 16 years of age.
4. The minimum waiver-able age of 14 is hereby change to 15.
a. Only individuals who can validate enrollment in one of the following United States Military cadet programs; Junior ROTC, Civil Air Patrol, Sea Cadets, and Young Marines; are eligible to receive a waiver for enlistment.
b. Those requiring and receiving a age waiver for cadet service are no longer eligible to enlist/contract at the grade/rank of E-2.
5. All individuals with current or prior service in the United States Military, all of which are eligible to enlist at the grade/rank of E-2 are required prior to receiving their enlistment contract to provided required documentation for verification.
a. Required documentation includes a copy of their DD-214 form for service validation. Members of the Army or Air National Guard are to provide a copy of their NGB-22 form.
b. Other documentation in lieu of a DD-214/NGB-22 may be accepted at the discretion of the appropriate authority. Note that the use of a photocopy or other copy of military identification for verification is prohibited and it should be known that the copying of DoD identification cards is a federal offense.
c. Current service members of the United States Military will be contacted to obtain required information needed to verify current status in either the Active, Reserve, or the National Guard component by a certified unit member who is also currently serving.
d. Retired service members of the United States Military who's documentation shows 20+ years of service are now eligible to enlist at the grade/rank of E-3.
e. Individuals with cadet service must provided a official cadet record that shows current cadet involvement. Cadet service for E-2 enlistments is decided on a individual basis, and decided by command. Recruiting personnel should direct cadets to show any records possible as this is most of what influences command discretion.
f. All individuals will also be required to conduct a interview with the commander, Captain Alderman who is a Military Police Officer in the Army National Guard.
6. Individuals with a Dishonorable Discharge or Bad Conduct Discharge are permanently disqualified for enlistment into the 3rd Marine Division Realism Unit.
7. Those with a Entry Level Separation (less than 180 days of military service) are no longer eligible to enlist are the grade/rank of E-2.
8. Individuals with current service in the armed forces of a NATO country are eligible to enlist at the rank/grade of E-2, and will be required to provide appropriate documentation to validate current military service.
a. They must also receive the approval from the commander (Capt. Alderman).
b. Those with military service in Canada will also be required to conduct a interview with First Sergeant Flinn who is a Military Police Officer in the Canadian Forces.
9. Any unit personnel who at any time discover that any individual has made false claims and is found to have never served in the United States Military are to be reported to commander so appropriate action can be taken and said individuals reported for impersonation of a government official which is a federal offense in the United States.
